This is an integrative course on management techniques, principles and practices focused on the twin areas of “Productivity” and “Quality”. Most of the Sri Lankan manager’s level of productivity consciousness is low. As a prelude to this, the course intends to orient the undergraduate’s mindset towards a productivity oriented mindset to manage organizations with a continuous improvement mentality.

Hence, the course is structured into three sections namely, managing for efficiency, managing for quality and integrating efficiency and quality in enhancing organizational productivity through numerous productivity improvement practices and techniques.

The aim of this course is to provide comprehensive knowledge and understanding about the fundamental concepts and issues of Productivity and Quality and to impart the relevant Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes required to successfully improve Productivity and Quality in business organizations.

At the end of this course students should be able to:

  • Define, describe and explain different concepts and terms relating to Productivity and Quality.
  • Elaborate and critically discuss various models, theories and relationships between Productivity and Quality.
  • Diagnose problems and suggest solutions for issues relating to Productivity and Quality.
  • Apply modern Productivity and Quality improvement techniques in any organizational settings.

Apply modern Productivity and Quality improvement techniques in students’ personal, household and organizational settings.
